    The Hand of God 2021

    Piboh

Probably the best movie I've watched in this 2019, so far.
The plot is basic indeed and denying this is naive - almost as naive as several dramaturgic points scattered trough the unraveling of an already-seen love story.
Nevertheless, Mieli's directing and screenwriting skills show a masterful touch which never falls into platitudes, deadening the corny tropes of the genre and avoiding whatsoever empathetic obstacle to a fully-emotional participation to a bittersweet movie.
In particular, the clever and original choice…

Very happy that byNWR is restoring rare, forgotten and unknown films such as this regional indie. Really too bad this film didn't get the attention it deserved back in the day because I bet Joseph Anderson, crew and cast would have had healthy careers in film.

Scan of the 35mm negative looks great and rural PA circa 1964 is gorgeous.

    Arne Adolfsen

★★★★ Watched by Arne Adolfsen 21 Feb 2013

I watched La bocca del lupo on a whim, not really knowing what it was about beyond the one-line blurb I read that it was a documentary set in Genoa and dealt with the romance between an ex-con career criminal and his great love, an ex-junkie transsexual. It is that, certainly, but I wasn’t prepared for such a beautifully composed and sustained meditation on love, time’s passing, permanence and impermanence. The movie is actually a double portrait: of once majestic…
