The more I know, the less I really know.
I’ve pondered way too many times about what and how to properly write about Burning, a film I’ve more than stuffed my mouth with in my online film circlings. If on my first watch I was washed up by confusion and dumbfounding, asking myself constantly why or what, now on my third watch I find that after putting together all the puzzle pieces I only end up with a bigger puzzle…
We often fail to realize how absurdly far humanity has gotten, and yet how incredibly small and vulnerable we still are. Enormous mountains, vast and endless deserts, massive jungles of concrete and glass juxtaposed with minuscule microchips that may have initiated the most significant global revolution in human history. Massive and indistinguishable crowds of people going on their day, caught inside their own worlds. And we’ve all taken those things for granted. How far will we go? How much time…
Fun was had. I’m really out of the loop with Taika suddenly being everyone’s least favorite person alive, I don’t feel much more than a mild annoyance towards his self-inserts and his “he’s right behind me isn’t he” type of humor. This is harmless and pleasant enough though, it’s not even worth to get mad at it.
Extraordinarily uncomfortable watch, a movie deeply settled into the realms of the uncanny valley in a way I don’t think I’ve ever seen before. No character is who they say they are and the whole film is framed and shot in an eerily idyllic filter that only exacerbates this feeling of altered reality that could only come from the POV of a delusional mind.
So much to say and ponder about this one. The line “I am secure” made me want to crawl out of my skin so so bad.
