  Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse 2023

  Wowee. Truly peerless* in animation. Unbelievably cool and innovative.

  But man. Something’s off with this one. Bloated as hell. Wonky pacing. Tired jokes. An underwhelming villain. It’s such a shame - the new characters are fun (Spider-Punk! Pravitr!), and Miles remains a great hero. Has a good comic book stinger of an ending. The Spidey game cameo early on made me laugh. Hopefully part two is better. 

  (*Until that extremely good looking TMNT movie is out.)

  I’m sure my rating will fade to a 4 over time, but fresh out the theater - what a fantastic sequel this is. Lana reclaims what pop culture has twisted over time into her own again, with an undeniably bold sequel (the best Matrix sequel, easily).

  Geoff Keighley musta been fucking stoked to get the call about using a Game Awards trophy in the movie.
