Quill: The Life of a Guide Dog

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Quill follows the life of Labrador named, Quill. From his first days of a pup to his very last, we see his training and eventual graduation as a fully qualified guide-dog. The story is told from the perspective of "loss"- namely Quill's losses and in classic, Japanese, film-making style, ends on fairly sad note. None of the relationships with the dog are truly developed as much as they could have been, but since one does experience a feeling of loss in the final act of the film, the film makers, must have established enough emotional ties.

  • Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

One of the most visually impressive movies on the new millienium. Sure the writing could have been better, but, in the end, who's watching something like this for Best Original Screenplay material? The filmmakers should be applauded for doing something ORIGINAL. Also, Edward Shearmur's original score fit like a glove. This is the route George Lucas should have taken with a brand new franchise rather than try to make the Prequels fit this mode.

    The Grey

This was true, unadultered, wilderness-survival-torture-pr0n! It was unrelenting in its bleakness and left me as cold as the mountain-wilderness setting. Additionally, Marc Streitenfeld's minimal score is almost completely snowed over by the film's bleakness.

Put simply...I wish more films made me feel the way this one does every time I watch it.
