Pacific Rim: Uprising

Pacific Rim: Uprising

After nearly a year of release delays, the ‘Pacific Rim’ sequel everyone “needed” is here. With Del Toro out of the director’s chair, and Boyega replacing Hunnam, this is bound to be as mildly successful as its predecessor, right?

What Del Toro presented in his 2013 rock em sock em extravaganza was a visual and narrative marvel. A film that spread its mythos across its runtime expertly, and one that introduced us to characters of all demeanors and origins, so wildly portrayed by actors stepping out of their “genre comfort zones”, collaborating to cancel the apocalypse. Del Toro experimented with a genre so polluted by mindless chinabait and made something so simple, yet so innovative and engaging.
