Loved it. My favorite I’ve seen this summer in theaters. Yeah, I said it. It’s even better than Avengers: Infinity War.
Also Laura Harrier 😍
I like this film less than when I first saw it. Nothing really invests me in the relationship and I don’t think Armie and Tim’s performance(save for Tim’s ending scenes) are anything noteworthy.
But, this film is so beautifully shot. Super 35mm and only a single lens was used(Cooke 35). Colored so well. Soundtrack slaps. It’s really a love letter to Italian cinema. I can’t believe I just fucking typed that. I probably sound like a cuck.
Plot = mediocre. Technical aspects = very pleasing. There. That’s better.
Unsettling. I went and took a walk outside after watching this to try and forget it. Then I came inside and started writing this. I wonder if the 15 years since Elephant’s release has added more weight to it.
This film asks for your patience. Possibly the best Van Sant I’ve seen (which is only 4). Spectacular use of time. Long takes are hypnotic. Old Hollywood aspect ratio WORKS. In this.
