I didn’t read the novel. I felt this movie tried to have style but the tone wasn’t on point. A lousy script undermined its intentions. The dialogue and the production did not establish this movie as a period piece and it unintentionally came across as schlocky and campy. I was perplexed as I couldn’t figure out if the movie was trying to take itself seriously or not.
Big hearted and fun. I’m glad the DCEU is on a roll making movies that aren’t a slog to sit through. Seriously, the kid playing Batman vs Superman with his figurines in Shazam! was more interesting than the entire Batman Vs Superman movie. But anyways, Shazam! treats it’s measages of family and friendships seriously, elevating this superhero movie into a solid entry in this universe.
