cerulgalactus’s review published on Letterboxd:
Kirk Douglas plays Chuck Tatum, a cynical bastard of a big city reporter stuck in small town New Mexico. Upon stumbling upon a local treasure hunter, Leo Minosa, trapped in a mine collapse, he exploits the situation to orchestrate his trip back to the big time. Then he has change of heart after seeing the monsters he created out of Minosa’s wife, the town sheriff, and a couple thousand dustbowl lookieloos.
Granted, I’ve only seen but four Billy Wilder films at this time, but Ace In The Hole is proof that Wilder could do straight up drama as well as any other genre.
