The rogue Roombas are easily the most developed and likable characters.

  • Ascension

Clunky and sometimes laugh-out-loud bad, but not without charm and interesting ideas.

  • Upstream Color

    Upstream Color

The only cure for parasitic mind control worms that are mystically linked to musique concrete is to go pig farming. Or something.

  • The Neon Demon

    The Neon Demon

Jean Michel Jarre with colours and cannibals.

  • Lucy

The extra half a star is for being thoughtfully short enough that the lost minutes of my life are immaterial. Featuring the sort of science found on the back of a shampoo bottle, this is the most extraordinary twaddle. A USB stick? Honestly.

  • Pacific Rim

    Pacific Rim

Big, dumb, and proud of it.

Warped accents abound: Americans pretending to be English, Englishmen and Canadians pretending to be Australians.

Starship Troopers with less aliens, but bigger aliens.

    Hilarity ensues.

  • The Day After

    The Day After

Some outrageously bad acting, but the military scenes are excellent, and it manages to be grim and chilling.

  • The Host

    The Host

Great balls of cheese. Some samples...
"These humans are not like other bodies you've inhabited, they have very strong physical drives"
"Human beings are just so... alien"

Very shiny cars, motorbikes, and helicopters though.

  • Man of Steel

    Man of Steel

Some drawn out action scenes made it longer than it needed to be... but on the whole very good.

  • The Goonies

  • Anna Karenina

    Anna Karenina

Visually impressive. Not much of an adaptation though... didn't really feel like the book in any way other than a few familiar names and places.
