Carol Grant’s review published on Letterboxd:
Feels like a female Fast & Furious in how it takes a previously simple story and treats it with a sense of mythology and family. Next we need Mamma Mia! Tokyo Drift.
Disappointed they did away with the original's snappy, stagey dialogue and propulsive pace, but it's in favor of something more relaxed and akin to a hangout movie, so the tradeoff ultimately works. Where this shines above the original is in how much more gracefully, confidently directed the musical numbers are. The choreography in "Waterloo" especially slaps harder than anything on La La Land.
#onbrand reflection: extremely gay for Alexa Davies with the short hair as young Rosie. Whoa baby.
