The Neon Demon ★★★½

A fairly stupid movie that still manages to be just self-aware enough of its contradictory viewpoints: the film's own fetishization not only of the female body but also of its own artificiality in general; plus the film's confused critique of a patriarchal system that brings powerful, beautiful women to turn against and consume one another. Everything in this film is objectified, and we the audience are brought to be complicit in it because Refn has a genuine love for his own artifice.

tl;dr: #problematic, but I ate it up (pun intended?)
