Beautifully shot, with just amazing production work. They thought through a lot of details and did an excellent job in world-building. I would love to see more stories in this universe.
Unfortunately, this story was just not that engaging. It lagged in the middle and I was bored a couple of times. It picks up in the third act, but by then I was already skeptical.
I think Blomkamp's error was slowing down the battle scenes in some parts (removing their sound etc) while accelerating the transition scenes (ie. scenes that should show a passage in time in between are just mashed together, almost like a jump cut). The pacing was off for most of the movie which contributed to my boredom.
