Chad Kohalyk’s review published on Letterboxd:
This is one of Ghibli's films directed at a more older audience. My 3 year old did not understand the themes of unrequited love, women's lib, love triangles, or get the interwar Europe nostalgia. She did enjoy the some of the beautiful flight scenes and the zany air pirate characters. The production value on this is amazing: scenery, sound, "prop" design, and the attention to detail. Not one of my family's favourite Ghibli films, but definitely one of mine.
ADDENDUM: I think Moriyama Shuichiro is my favourite voice actor. Cool to see that he also voiced Jubei from Ninja Scroll, but his portrayal of Marco in this film is so layered. It hits the mark perfectly. I want that voice.
