The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey ★★★★½

Though I could've done without the fart/snot/poop jokes, Martin Freeman, and the messed up dwarves make-up, I thought this movie was fun, entertaining and filmed in loving detail. I am a fan, not a movie critic. Unlike some, I enjoyed the episodic nature of this film and think of it as seeing the first 3 episodes of a 10 episode HBO series. They obviously had cash to spend this time round and took Renderman up a notch (especially with falling wood, stones and gold pieces) , and I think every gobkin/orc was individually designed. Just amazing to look at. I saw it in 2D at the regular FPS. Totally want to see it again and I can't wait for the next installment.
