Wow! I am happy they did a good job at putting the book on screen. I was very nervous about it, but Ridley Scott put together an excellent film.
There were some parts of the book that I wished weren't cut from the film, but overall I was still feeling all sorts of tenseness and emotions, even though I knew the story.
The production value was great. The Mars landscapes were detailed and haunting. I loved looking at them, especially in 3D. The costumes and sets were great. Ridley Scott knows a thing or two about shooting spaceships.
Now for the negatives.
The acting was pretty good. I wasn't super-impressed with Matt Damon. He did an okay job. His action scenes were great, but he couldn't pull off Mark Watney's comedic timing. Overall I think casting was a little weak... the big names brought along too much baggage.
Still though, I think this film is great, and I look forward to seeing it again.
