Beautiful and stunning for all the obvious reasons but felt like some of the political-conflict/man v man stuff was a bit of an afterthought compared to the rest. And some of the internal world logic doesn't feel super airtight (wolf head???). Whatever, I love any anime movie that ends with a giant mythical God-mode creature fucking shit up a la Akira
What would feel mawkish and overly clichéd in lesser hands is a genuinely compelling movie by Demme. The man sure knows how to work a close up. Denzel feels like the star for most of the movie, Denzel-ing it up as he does, except for when Hanks steals the show with that opera scene.
Also they should remake this movie but Tom Hanks has coronavirus this time
