Leave it to Joe Bob Briggs to get me to reevaluate this movie. I was always kind over underwhelmed by this one, maybe because it’s so much style over substance and basically just riffs on stuff like Rosemary’s Baby. But Joe Bob has me convinced that Ti West had more on his mind. The incredibly slow buildup is definitely necessary to make the horror of the ending impactful. And all that slowburning has a lot of great subtle touches. Every sound seems to have meaning. Every inch of the house is explored. Not all of it is important, but that’s the fun in watching this. Also, thank you Joe Bob for coining the phrase “mumblegore.” Also also, agree it was nice to see Greta Gerwig get her face blown off.
