sam thought it was a feel-good film but i'm not so sure

i thought it was kind of clichéd, like i was expecting a movie where a bunch of people who disagree with each other grow into a family, with lots of long shots of people walking down the sidewalk and bringing things into frame using focus, all soundtracked to sort of meandering piano—and that's what i got! it's a good recipe & if it ain't baroque don't fix it

don hertzfeldt put this on youtube last week and it's a marvelous vision of people trying very hard to interface with a humanity that's no longer accessible to them

every minute of this film is a masterpiece. it's been a long time since I've seen a movie this deliberate, this well-paced, that oscillates this well between tense action scenes and boredom and humanity. just dang what a good frickin movie i tell ya what

Liked the non-linear narrative, I think it really helped contextualise how the past influences the present.

Think I sorta liked the meta-narrative too, where the character is the author and the book is made in the movie, but I guess that's a book thing and not a movie thing.
