Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory

Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory ★★★★

Childhood Favorite.

Gene Wilder is the perfect Wonka. He performance brings to mind an eccentric loner genius with a pinch of a trickster god thrown in. His erratic persona switches from fun and whimsical one moment to outright sinister in the next.

Can we trust him or is he leading us to our doom?

Does it even matter?

The soundtrack is bangin, the songs are dope as hell and the 70's psychedelic aesthetic is to die for.

In depth, the film is a great morality tale that tackles the themes of poverty and the temptations of greed until it hits a climatic final battle between one young man's human nature vs his higher principles.
