  • Mandy

This is the craziest film of 2018.

Directed by Panos Cosmatos, Mandy tells the story of a man who seeks vengeance against a sinister cult. The film, surrealistic in nature, mixes elements of horror and extreme violence, all while under the filter of a dark acid trip. The intense and unsettling score creeps into scenes and carries the actions of violence. The dazzling visuals create an aesthetic unlike any other film. The dialogue, although scarce, creates an eerie shock of…

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

For me, this series lives and dies with the side characters. The small group of people that accompany Indy on his adventures. In Temple of Doom, it was Short Round. For this, it's Indy's father, Henry. Sean Connery's performance was great and added another layer to the typical Indiana Jones story. I also enjoyed the beginning flashback to when Indy was a boy.

Now for the macguffin and locations. I liked the scenes featured in Venice and where the Temple…

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is a better, but similar story to Raiders. It has another quest that Indy needs to venture with his companions, Willie Scott and Short Round. Willie is another romantic interest type, with no real depth. She's far worse than Marion from Raiders. Short Round is Indy's trusty sidekick, who is awesome. I truly enjoy this character. He adds a good secondary role with great humor. The general premise is also just as good…

    Raiders of the Lost Ark

Certainly isn't one of the greatest films that everyone claims it to be. Raiders of the Lost Ark is a fun little film from Spielberg, it's a action adventure, contains the classic eighties cheese, and houses some dated but effective special effects. Even for it's time, it wasn't ground breaking. Quite frankly, Indiana Jones is underwhelming. Marion Ravenwood always needs to be saved. The main antagonists appear to have no threat to them. And somehow Indy just always seems to…

  • Alps

Alps is an odd Greek film from Yorgos Lanthimos. This film, like his others, is absurdly peculiar and niche. The film follows a small group of people, called the Alps, who portray recently deceased people for their grieving families.

The film certainly isn't bad or poorly made, it just wasn't as enjoyable and captivating as his other works. The execution of this film wasn't as successful as it was with The Killing of a Sacred Deer or The Lobster. The…
