Absolutely kicked my fuckin' ass.
I've loved these movies ever since being blown away out of nowhere by the first one at Regal Union Square (RIP). I saw the second one with friends in one of those insane 4DX chairs that vibrates when people get shot (we kinda did it as a bit, but also... it kinda ruled?). These are the only 3 movies I have paid to own since the streaming era, just so I could make sure they'd never be unavailable.
And this was the way to end it.
I could watch guys get nailed by cars and nuts get chewed by dogs and some kind of crazy fire gun(?) all fuckin' day. Donnie Yen's sword work, and Keanu putting everything he had into all of it. The choreography on display here is relentless and almost unthinkably dense. EVERYONE put everything into this one to somehow top the untoppable (though I still miss the library book kill.)
Even though it hurts to let John Wick (hopefully) go, I'm glad they No Time To Die'd him. There's honestly nowhere to heighten from here, and I hope they let him keep his "Loving Husband" ending. This story has always felt like it could only end at the end of the road.
If they really must insist on spinoffs (which they already are), Donnie Yen and Shamier Anderson are more than capable of keeping other cool stories going. But I'd be down for a rest for now.
On a sadder note, it was brutal watching Lance Reddick's character die on the same week he fucking died. That was a surreal sucker punch I was not expecting.
