Starts off very edgy but gets surprisingly sweet. Lupita Nyong'o is as always perfect and the zombies look great.

The one take section in the beginning was fun enough, but the making-of segment in the end was hilarious.

The amount of adoration to the original in this is evident in so many visual references, but also in the story beats. And of course that score.

The fact that they were able to make this feel like a love letter to the original and simultaneously completely modern is huge.

    The Lion King

    ★★½

Visually amazing, and Eichner and Rogen are great as Timon and Pumbaa. Other than that, this doesn't do much differently from the original, and there isn't much to justify itself as a full movie unto itself.

Slow burning and nice to look at. I appreciated the vaguery and lack of convolution, which isn't something you see much in these types of movies.
