‘favourites’ are the last 4 things I gave 5 stars for
A brutal and devastating watch. Noé explores the inevitable decline; the inexorable decay. Trapped in a confined and cramped Paris apartment, we watch our two protagonists take their final laps, both conjoined and separate in equal measure. Within this space Noé explores a variety of themes ranging from love’s aching durability, to a society’s dependence on drugs - both pharmaceutical and otherwise, and naturally with the film all largely set in this musty apartment, the importance of ‘home’ as a storage for our memories - the ones we can remember anyway - before they slip through our fingers into the abyss.
