Part of the Film School Drop Outs Challenge
Week 1 - Auteurs - Pioneers of Film - Lumiere Brothers, George Melies or Alice Guy-Blache
Since I had seen so much Melies in the past year, I wanted to go more with someone I had never heard of and Alice Guy-Blanche appealed to me a little more. I had never heard of her before, but this film definitely made me interested in seeing more. "The Last Leaf" is one of my favorite O. Henry stories and has translated so well in so many incarnations, and Guy-Blanche really shows that here with the emphasis on the innocence, but purity of a child. The set is amazing, and while the dialogue is minimal, it is so effective. A quite beautiful short silent.
