I Could Never Be Your Woman

    ★★½

I Could Never Be Your Woman (2007, Amy Heckerling) Romantic comedy drama + satire of the TV industry as single mum Show Runner Rosie (Michelle Pfeiffer) hires & then starts dating the much younger Adam (Paul Rudd). Lots of targets, as many hits as misses. Astonishing cast...

With Saoirse Ronan, Tracey Ullman, Jon Lovitz, Fred Willard, Stacey Dash and a surprising array of Brit TV faves Inc. David Mitchell, Mackenzie Crook, Steve Pemberton, and Graham Norton.
But just as Rudd's character steals the show within the film, he also steals the film.

Woman at War (2018, Benedikt Erlingsson)
Icelandic-Ukrainian comedy-drama starring Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir in dual roles as twin sisters, one of whom is an environmentalist who has to escalate her activism when she hears that after 4 years she's finally been cleared to adopt. For those that teach film form Woman at War features some playful / knowing intertwined use of music. Is it diegetic? Non-diegetic? Both? Neither? But whatever, music also fantastic.

    Big Fish (2003, Tim Burton)
Edward Bloom (Albert Finney) has lived a good life totally buying into the "when the legend becomes fact, print the legend" school of life, but his son (Bill Crudup) despairs of his tall tales, which we see played out by Ewan MacGregor. A true delight.

    Soul (2020, Pete Docter)
Jim (Jamie Foxx) has long dreamt of being a jazz pianist teaching is just a stop gap. After a successful audition he has an accident & his soul/body separate forcing him to reassess his priorities whilst helping a new soul (Tina Fey) join life. Charming.
