Bias disclosure, “The Strand” is my favorite store in NYC. That said, any documentary with subjects this niche and this enthusiastic will be entertaining.
There’s no great drama here, just a bunch of book enthusiasts pining over dust covers and 1st editions. The contents of the books is secondary to the story. These people pack studio apartments with enough books to make a fire marshall scream.
It’s a tad overlong, as the message (“This is a dying craft”) is essentially repeated for 90 minutes. I can’t afford this hobby, but one takeaway is I’ll be going to more book fairs
