    The Big Fix

    ★★★★

With Dreyfuss’ effortless everyman charm, unexpected twists, and a subtle grain of humour (including a delightful reoccurring joke in which Moses keeps concocting different reasons why he has a cast on his broken wrist), The Big Fix’s post-flower power political mystery is an intriguing diversion.

    Honest Thief

    ★★

Honest Thief is either an inconceivable crime-thriller in the mould of Liam Neeson’s Taken brand or the most romantic movie ever made. Or perhaps it’s a bit of both. One False Move

Initially set for straight-to-video, One False Move rode a wave of positive word-of-mouth and the fact acclaimed film critic Gene Siskel named it his favourite film of 1992 to earn a short theatrical release and a cult following.

A violent, gritty thriller that straddles the sensibilities of neo-noir thanks to co-writer and star Billy Bob Thornton's mix of slow-burn character study (of both crooks and coppers), a seductive femme fatale, and well-meaning Sheriff with skeletons in his closet (Bill Paxton), director Carl Franklin's film oozes tension on its way to a showpiece finale.
