while being cute aesthetically, this film doesn't bring anything new to the table, and it's ok, that isn't necessary. the goals it set in the beginning were met — creepy old woman turned out to be evil, no happy end, mutilated Lena Dunham in a wooden box (????)... well i kinda wanted there to be a wicked twist, cannot lie.
although the theme of the poisonous fungi set in the beginning didn't really have an explanation in the end, and instead was replaced by the cannibal subplot, it didn't ruin the film for me. loved the old lady character, she was the jewel of the film, especially in the first half, before all the cannibal stuff was introduced.
overall, i was expecting a lot less based on the reviews, and was pleasantly surprised. the soundtrack is very cute too btw, really adds to the atmosphere.
