Chris (Back Luck Man) Tellez’s review published on Letterboxd:
Rewatching this, this movie is somehow better than I thought, but my God is it surprisingly dark. This movie has some shockily gruesome scenes of children suffering one by one in a very disturbing manner, all of them nearly facing their demise in a G rated movie nonetheless. And the tunnel scene was trippy and dark with the flashy visuals and images flashing out while Wonka smiles and recites a poem. However, the rest was very good. I enjoyed Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka, the songs are great, (As for the Oompa Loompa song, it's so catchy and the lyrics that come along with it was a fun addition) the moments with Charlie and Grandpa Joe was touching, and the visuals were still good even for 1971 standards. Although some of the kids are kinda annoying.
If you're curious of how Willy Wonka would had turned out as a horror movie, watch Corridor Crew's video here. Although unless you want to ruin your childhood, I suggest you don't watch this video. youtu.be/hDtjefcXIh8
