Originally when I first saw this I hated it. I was very young, and I found myself bored. Since then I’ve seen this like 4 or 5 times, and each time it gets better and better. Thankfully I recognize this as the masterpiece that this is. It plays out like a cinematic fever dream, reminiscing more of a music video than a traditional film. James Franco is electric, and the four leading ladies also shine. This film also features what…

How did the Academy just not nominate every song for that year?

Real talk, this movie means so much to me. It’s hard to put into words the impact it’s had on me. Everything about it just works so well. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are the perfect duo. Damien Chazelle is a master behind the camera. I’ve seen it countless times, and it never gets old. I love this film so much. If you’ve somehow never seen this please give it a watch. Even if you don’t fall in love with it like I have, there’s plenty to admire.

I will admit that the film feels a bit too distant for it to fully connect with me. But there’s a ton to admire here. It’s a very well made film, especially for a college thesis film. I bet this is one of those films that rewards rewatches, but for now I can say it was just fine.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 is barely a movie. This was just clearly an excuse for the cast to hang out in Greece. The film felt like a collection of scenes rather than a fully fleshed out film. Story isn’t always necessary but the film just isn’t funny enough to make up for that. The humor just feels incredibly dated. Overall, this was terrible. I shouldn’t be too surprised as I didn’t like the other two films. But I’m a completionist, so I had to finish the trilogy.

    When We Were Bullies

    ½

Fuck this short. This basically boils down to “screw the person who was bullied, the bully’s feelings matter more”. Just so self indulgent in the worst way possible. Jay Rosenblatt doesn’t care about the kid he bullied, he just wants to make himself look good. He literally says that the bullied kid doesn’t matter to the film, and says since he has experienced tragedy that he feels his pain and that they are one and the same. As someone who has been bullied this really pisses me off. Rosenblatt tries to absolve himself, but he basically proves that he is still a bully with this film.

    The Swimmers

    ★★½

The Swimmers is a very average movie. The story itself is extraordinary, and the film features strong performances from Manal and Nathalie Issa. But the execution of this story is just so bland. It hits the cliches you expect without adding anything extra. It’s far from a bad watch, but it’s pretty damn middling. It’s also too long. Overall, this didn’t do much for me. With better writing this could’ve been great but instead we get another run of the mill Netflix movie.
