• Mank

Alien Cubed no longer the worst Fincher outing.

A little CGI and a stream-of-consciousness tough-guy dialogue, a little song and dance.

  • Velvet Buzzsaw

    Velvet Buzzsaw

This is so trashy and awful and I love it.

  • Vice

A bad movie that has nothing but contempt for the audience, but the audience deserves it, so 3 stars?

  • Donald Gets Drafted

    Donald Gets Drafted

Donald clearly is a sailor. Drafting him into the U.S. Army makes no sense.

  • Molly's Game

    Molly's Game

Eric Garland is Aaron Sorkin's illegitimate child.

  • Phantom Thread

    Phantom Thread

Rarely has butter been used to comedic effect so subtly.

  • The Post

"It's Mr. Post with Bob and David."

Bruce Greenwood as Bob McNamara low key MVP.

What to Watch Challenge 2018, Calendar Week 6
    February - "Award Winners" CW 6 - A Razzie winner #WTWChallengeCW6

$1.99 to rent on YouTube in standard def. Sucks that even a fraction of that money will make its way back to D'Souza, a convicted felon propagandist for white supremacists and the 1%. I hope my $15 a month to the ACLU or other givings make up for this somehow.

I'm sure this is effective for its intended audience.

    Lionsgate, go fuck yourself.

    #WTWChallenge February - "Award Winners"
    CW 5 - A Palm d'Or winner #WTWChallengeCW5

"God twice let me see through a body to a soul."

My first pre-2000 Depardieu film in a few years, and my first Maurice Pialat film ever. I'm also ashamed to say that it's also the first time in a long time I've sat down to a Sandrine Bonnaire film (time to revisit VAGABOND soon). I have a soft spot for Catholic cinema, and I'm always intrigued…

  • Dolls

Part of the What To Watch Challenge (#WTWChallenge)
    CW 4 - A film by Takeshi Kitano #WTWChallengeCW4

Kitano, as best as I can tell, doesn't show up in front of the screen in this one. Good -- there's an abundance of scenery porn to commit to the frame in addition to, you know, the actual actors. But I suppose the themes of the changing seasons comprising such a strong part of the film, Nature ought to be a starring role…

  • Audition

    Part of #WTWChallenge #Japanuary:
CW 3 - A film by Takashi Miike
Extremely disturbing, which I assume Miike was going for. I'm not sure I've spent enough time in Austin, Texas, to appreciate this for its genre, but the technical aspects are phenomenal.

I'm glad the What to Watch Challenge exists, because I'd never have sought this out otherwise... and I'm pretty sure I won't ever seek it out again.
