Christian Alec’s review published on Letterboxd:
This takes such a deep and human approach to the AIDS crisis of the 1980s. A crisis of course, that the government totally ignored as millions died. Buddies was the first film dealing with the topic and it has a lot to say, especially the biggest question of why a God would do this to innocent people.
I was deeply moved by Geoff Edholm's performance as Robert, a man dying from AIDS who reluctantly accepts David (David Schachter) into his life as his "buddy" to spend the day with him, talking about life, love and the outlook of things to come. This is an important film in queer cinema, one that should be watched to remember such a horrific time that can never be forgotten or ignored.
