Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key

Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key ★★★★

Things can seem like a dream in a Sergio Martino film, but this time it really felt like a dream…one which I’ve experienced before. In this case it’s because I’ve seen a crappy transfer of this a few years back. Time (and a stellar restoration by Arrow) have done wonders, making this mix of gothic horror, giallo, and Edgar Allan Poe a winner, much better than All the Colors of the Dark.

Anita Strindberg and Edwige Fenech both play against type from their previous Martino films and Fenech in particular is a marvel. Given more agency and an actually personality she’s wonderful in her role. A great script and stellar cinematography make Your Vice is a Locked Room…a high point in my Martino retrospective so far.
