For crying out loud Edward Yang, please stop it. Throughout the first half of the film, the pacing was at times so ponderous and meandering that I was already ready to slap an average rating on it and call it a day. But as the film’s naturalistic rhythm set in, I could not help but feel the emotional weight of its heavy punches, leading to an ending that is both uplifting and heartbreaking. It’s so damn human, and it’s so damn good!
