Dune Part 1
I saw this on the biggest screen near me and I know that played a large role in my enjoyment. This movie is epic in every sense of the meaning- it’s a movie that belongs on the tier of “this doesn’t feel like a movie” movies.
Dune is an incredible adaptation of the book, I can’t even imagine adapting a complex sci-fi novel like Dune into what the crew did here. Before you bag on it…

This is what I would call a “puzzle movie.” Where you can complete a puzzle, draw a picture, edit a photo, or really do any other similar activity. The movie doesn’t require attention like a Nolan movie would, so you can mostly just let it happen. It was longer than it should’ve been, but my trusty puzzle came in to save the day. Tick, tick… Boom! feels reminiscent of La La Land’s “follow your dreams” plot while still feeling completely, independently, absitively, posilutely its own thing. And I loved it.
If I were to describe it to someone, I’d call it a musical of a musical; because while it definitely has song and dance, it never feels completed- which is exactly what it’s supposed to feel like. I LOVED this movie. I would love for it to win Best Editing, Best Screenplay, and dare I say it, Best Actor. All of these categories excelled for me in The Father. This may be the best and my favorite performance I’ve seen from Anthony Hopkins! And I’ve seen Silence of the Lambs!
