Hands down one of the finest films of 2018, definitely the best Spider-Man film since Spider-Man 2, and inarguably the greatest comic-book film of the entire decade, which is no mere feat considering that 2010s is filled to the brim with superhero flicks.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a jaw-dropping feat of originality, imagination & top-tier storytelling. Every frame is a throwback, every scene sets up the next, every moment is accounted for, every aspect is neatly executed, and all the elements work in pure, perfect harmony.
Add to that, its distinct, unique & groundbreaking animation is achieved by not striving for perfection but by simply embracing the imperfections of those comic book prints when translating it to the film canvas, which in turn gives its images a cinematic look that feels both fresh & familiar.
In short, Into the Spider-Verse is clever, creative & confident piece of filmmaking throughout. Animation is the best medium to explore the universe of comic books to their full potential, and this instant classic proves why. Easily the best big screen experience I've had in a long, long time.
