  Just listened to an old Maron episode with Freidkin and as a result wanted to repeatedly turn to Valerie during the movie and say “it’s like the lady and the tiger” in the Freidkin voice.

  Did it after the screening and she told me to stop doing it.

  Nolan's failings as a filmmaker have been well enumerated (often taking on an overly aggressive negative tone by aggravated formerly teenage/fans) but I think his strengths remain curiously never actually arrived at. Because even in his bad movies there is a certain charm that I don't think you can entirely write off as nostalgia or fake deep movies for teen boys.

  That being said, a film about Oppenheimer from Nolan did, at first glance, cause deep fears in me. Because…
