Just enough references to the original to make you wonder why this movie isn’t in the least bit scary. The broad strokes of the script are interesting enough, but the character definition is absent and left completely to the actors who try their best. Funny supporting roles by a child and his babysitter, as well as a couple of cops, show what might have been.
Michael Myers is established as an indiscriminate killer, who simply takes the most convenient opportunities to continue his spree. Why then does he seem to run into every one of our heroes by mere coincidence? It makes you wonder why no one simply drives a few towns away and just waits for the police to do their job (besides the department’s unbelievably gross incompetence).
Jamie Lee Curtis does fine, but can’t really shine in this pretty boring film.
