The Great Outdoors ★★½

This okay, predictable comedy vehicle for Dan Aykroyd and John Candy was written by John Hughes. It feels very much like a National Lampoon's Vacation sequel in all but name. Indeed, Hughes also wrote the scripts for the first three entries in that series, making one wonder if this too was intended to be part of that run.

Some moments, particularly the running joke involving Candy's character's experiences with a bear, are fairly funny. Others, such as the over-protracted water-skiing and steak-eating scenes, are frankly a bit tedious.
