Jameson Berthiaume’s review published on Letterboxd:
Wow, so much to absorb here. I'll definitely need another viewing to organize my thoughts, but here we go. I liked it, didn't love it. I thought the first 15 minutes or so were incredibly strong but then the pace of the film gets crazy and you barely stay in one place for more than a minute. The editing and story telling are what bring this movie down. But the performances all around I thought were good, even Eisenberg as Lex. Surprisingly I thought he was the strongest character for most of the film (except for one or two moments) but then he kinda fizzled out towards the end. I think Cavill is still a great Superman but thought he was underwritten. Affleck as Batman was as great as I thought he'd be. He dominated that role in more ways than one. It may be too early to tell if he's the best Batman we've ever had, but he's in the discussion no doubt. Gal Gadot was fine as Wonder Woman. She was given so little to do it was impossible to mess anything up really. The action was solid and even surprising at times. The movie had great moments but that doesn't mean much when you have an incoherent story. The visuals were great as expected. I for the most part like Snyder's style and I was definitely in his corner before this movie. I support the heck out of Man of Steel. But I think he may have bit off more than he can chew with this one. A little less style and a little more substance was needed here. I'm holding out hope that the Director's Cut fixes some of the pacing issues. I look forward to seeing how this movie stands the test of time.
