The Master

The Master ★★★★★

"If you leave me now, in the next life you will be my sworn enemy. And I will show you no mercy."

To me, The Master is one of the three most distinguished films of the upper echelon of the decade, a true standout among standouts. It is a terrarium of ideas. Free will, true love, repression, suppression; and it contains these themes without offering any easy answers.

Where I may see something meaningful to me now, what did I see before? What will I see in the future? Maybe the only thing truly prime is the ocean and its waves. Maybe the most absurd apect of perceived infallibility is its assumption that objectivity could ever exist. Ultimately this film is a love story, a tender one even if it is abusive. And much like the great leaps forward in 2001, is not transcendence by its very mechanism of being attained in some way always a conferance of abuse?

So...state your name, recall your past life, and what do you see?
