The Mitchells vs. The Machines

The Mitchells vs. The Machines ★★★★½

THIS FILM. the animation!!! sony pictures animation can take all my money.

my expectations were high after seeing the positive reviews this film got, but it still blew me away. I cried, I laughed out loud a lot and I had such a good time. maya rudolph was amazing as always and her character's angry mom fight scenes gave me life. olivia colman voicing the evil robot queen made this even better. I was kind of on her side at times not gonna lie, humans can be absolutely terrible. but they do have the power of love, as cheesy as it sounds, and that is shown beautifully through the mitchell family. I especially loved the bond between katie and aaron. katie's complicated relationship with her dad was all too familiar.

I know I'm not the first person to say this, but I related to katie's character so much. from her positivity, to making everything about movies, to her relationship with her dad, to singing along to maya hee maya hoo as a kid, to her liking girls... I felt seen. it was so refreshing to see meaningful queer representation in a family film, disney could never (I mean they could, I've just kind of lost hope at this point). I'm so glad that kids watching this can find comfort and recognize themselves in katie's character.

I now want to show this film to my friends and family, and also rewatch it myself already.
