In what could have been just a silly movie, a stellar cast, led by Burt Reynolds, makes Smokey and the Bandit a fun ride. There is chemistry in spades from Sally Field and Jackie Gleason to Paul Williams and Jerry Reed. Many of the car stunts are outstanding, expected from director Hal Needham, and a lively soundtrack and quick pace keep things rolling non-stop. One of the better car/road films out there and certainly a highlight of Reynolds career and the decade. It doesn't get more 70s/80s southern than this.
