Gevorg Keoseyan’s review published on Letterboxd:
For my money, 2015 was one of the best year’s in cinema of recent memory. That’s what I would have said before ever watching Carol, and after spending the past two hours entranced by this beautiful film, I can now state that 2015 may very well be my favorite year for film. Carol captures the beauty, sincerity, and struggle of love in a way that very few films this decade, bar Call Me By Your Name, have been able to do so.
Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara each deliver award-worthy performances, through an on-screen chemistry that I would deem close to perfection. Every single shot in this film is gorgeous, Carter Burrell absolutely kills it with the score, and Haynes direction methodically builds this film from a slow simmer to a rapid boil. This easily makes its way into my all time top 50 and I’m a fool for having waited so long to see it.
