The Human Condition I: No Greater Love

Another perfectly paced masterpiece from Masaki Kobayashi!

This brutal film focuses on a young man with humanist ideals trying to put them into action but is surrounded by wolves who have their own way.

We as an audience slowly begin to empathise with him as time goes on and feel his pain. Having honourable ideals is not enough, one must put them into action but is that possible? Cooperation is required from both parties that loathe each other.

You know what really impressed me?
It's the fact that this film feels like it was written by Mank himself.

Fincher proves again how he's a master at crafting biopics. In an age of bland cookie cutter biopics such as Bohemian Rhapsody, it was wonderful to see an actual creative and riveting tale based on real life. The performances were outstanding and the script was so engaging. Although I can see how people would get confused particularly in the later half, therefore you need some knowledge about the events it depicts.

Before you rush to fill my comments with stuff like "L", take the time to read this first and present any counter arguments that you may have in your defence. There are many problems I have with this so I'll go over them one by one.

Let's start off with the pacing. God is this movie just too fucking long…
