    Eternals

    ★★★½

One of the best parts about seeing Eternals was not having to sit through the preview for Eternals.

Jokes aside, this was actually pretty good. Looking past the clunky jokes and info-dumps, there’s a lot of heart to this thing and I thought it was a rare Marvel movie that actually got better as it went along. And hey, as tame as it was, it was nice to see an actual sex scene in this franchise. Let superheroes be horny…

A little confused as to why there’s not more conversation around this movie, as I think it’s one of Wes Anderson’s best.

A beautiful, messy, sprawling, chaotic love letter to writers and the art of writing and how lonely it all can be. As to be expected with Wes Anderson, every frame is so perfectly realized and jam-packed with detail that there’s almost no way you could take it all in on a first watch. I can’t wait to see…

Jack Burton is one of the greatest written and acted characters in movie history.

Second time seeing this with a crowd and man, almost every line is laugh out loud funny. I can’t even count how many times I’ve seen it, and every joke still lands.

“Look, I’m a reasonable guy who’s just experienced some pretty unreasonable things!”

  • Quantum of Solace

    Quantum of Solace

    ★★½

Unfairly maligned, imo. Sure, it's the weakest of Craig's tenure, but it's more interesting than it gets credit for. Serving as a sort of extended epilogue to Casino Royale (far and away Craig's best), the messiness of this movie appropriately matches Bond's reeling, revenge obsessed mindset here. It's a cool little character study, and refreshingly short. Bond's relationship with Olga Kurylenko's Camille is also atypical for the franchise, and all the better for it. Easily one of the highlights of…

Saw at Cinespia. All around just a great time. Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall at the top of their game.

I refuse to believe James Wan didn’t know *exactly* what he was doing here. This is the best studio comedy in years.

This movie is just as fucking weird as I remembered it being and I love it. Absurd, poignant, thought provoking, and most of all, maddening. Every time the story is on the verge of “making sense”, Leos Carax throws a curveball and it all blows up. Borderline unhinged. It’s chaos.

    Can’t wait for Annette.

There’s so much I want to say about this movie, but I’m still processing so much of it. What I can say though is that the opening 20 minutes and the final 20 minutes are absolute masterful displays of filmmaking. Floored me. Unfortunately, and this is what I’m struggling with, a large chunk of the middle of the movie felt meandering to the point of being dull. I love a slow burn, and I love arthouse cinema, but all of…

Marvel’s perfect marriage of Doctor Who and LOST. From the acting, the writing, the directing and especially the music by Natalie Holt (easily the best score of the MCU, by leaps and bounds) I love love loved everything about this. Tom Hiddleston has lowkey been Marvel’s ace in the hole for over a decade now, and it’s been so nice to watch him dig deeper into this character week after week. Just a really great character driven exploration of who…

All around good vibes. An R-rated Goosebumps that at times felt like a perfect blend of Scream and It Follows. Also, the rare slasher movie where I was actually sad to see some of the teens get killed off.

    Bring on the next two!

Also also, the music budget for this had to be insane.
