My area of rural New Hampshire used to have a cinema everyone called the "Sticky Six." The theater space had six screens paired with uncomfortable plastic seating. The chairs were routinely covered in spilled soda, gum, and other questionable fluid. Hence the nickname. The theater also routinely broke down halfway through the film. I remember having a birthday party watching Batman Begins that fell apart at the halfway mark. My parents drove eight pubescent, pimply boys home…

Well. About damn time. I don't know what took me so long. But I have arrived.

Twenty or thirty minutes in I recognize the masterpiece before my eyes. Pacino yelling about Attica outside the bank is pure movie magic. Recent discussion of Dog Day Afternoon vis-à-vis the recent documentary Attica now makes sense to me.

    "Attica! Attica!"

I am so lost for words that I don't know what to say. This is easily one of the best movies I have…

Despite only vaguely knowing the plot of I Know What You Did Last Summer (which I know I need to see #horrormovieblindspot), the satire in Scary Movie was delightful to follow. Drew's favorite scary movie being Kazaam? I almost spit my drink out laughing. The movie is dumb as hell, but I think anyone booting this up will be aware of that. There are more biting satires out there, but as a portal back to the 2000s, I think Scary…

Hilarious. I can't recall ever seeing a movie where Anna Faris stars, (shoutout NAF!) and she nails it. It took me a while to warm up to the plot of the movie, but Faris's acting gripped me from the start. I loved the Marilyn Monroe reference and I love the supporting cast. It's amazing to see the career that Emma Stone has had since 2008. Colin Hanks feels a little miscast, but he is cute. Was that the lead singer…

Basket Case is oh so special to me. Deeply deeply personal. It is all connected to my ulcerative colitis. I would like to share why. Heads up, I am going to be graphic.

My colitis developed in high school, at a time in my life where I already had plenty of challenges. Girls, SATs, independence from my parents . You know the drill. Colitis comes along junior year and adds to the party. It chains me to the toilet night…

    The Green Knight

    ★★★★½

The film ends and the theater is silent. No one immediately stands up to leave. There is a collective air of "What the actual fuck just happened?"

When movies end like this, I always know I've seen something extraordinary. Sometimes the extraordinary is pretentious try hard material, but most often it is breathtaking, original art.

The latter is the case with The Green Knight. I had no idea what happened after my second post-lockdown theater experience, and needed a solid…
