    This is the type of movie I wanted to love: its got cool kid hype, a sweet aesthetic, and otherworldly visuals. But for everything that’s wonderful—the jaw-dropping animation and the 1Q84-ish story—there’s just too much melodramatic excess, which took me out of the movie instead of connecting me more deeply to it. We’ll see what I think when I watch again at some point.

    Many thoughts. Quick ones:

    Visuals are stunning, especially the middle sequence, shot veritcally from beneath the choir director, framed by the heavens in motion. Stunning.

    Hardly features Kanye at all. Mainly a monk-inspired desert worship experience through a fish eye lens with shades of Malick-esque nature shots.

    The doc is told through chapters musically, visually, and scripturally:
    - mark 1:15 (door imagery)
    - 1 chronicles 16:25 (fish eye lens finally opens up for communal praise)
