    Black Panther

    ★★★½

I’ve been off here for a while but I do plan to be more active in future. I finally decided to find out what all the fuss was about last night so settled down and watched this epic superhero picture.

    Get Out

    ★★★★

Get Out is a bizarre mash-up of Rosemary’s Baby, The Stepford Wives and The Wicker Man that thanks to Jordan Peele’s bitingly witty social commentary and Daniel Kaluuya’s captivating leading performance manages to somehow tread exciting new ground in its genre.

Although not all of the elements came together for me (the TSA agent bordered too much on obvious comic relief) for the most part Get Out is a thrilling and fiercely intelligent film.

Indeed, hopefully Get Out’s success with the Oscars will lead to studios having more confidence in the talents of minority filmmakers.
