And to think I nearly jumped on the "bash the Academy favorite even though I haven't watched it yet" bandwagon.
Not perfect (I honestly don't know what to think about Sam Rockwell's character), but nearly. Nearly! I kinda appreciate that the movie doesn't throw out an inspiring Message™ and instead just presents the story with all its messy characters and actions and everything. Phenomenal acting aside, this is essentially the type of narrative-driven, emotionally-engaging experience I want out of a movie, and I was very, very satisfied. I'm tired of only appreciating "good" movies for the technical skill yet still walking away without liking the story itself. But Three Billboards got me hooked from the get-go with that awesome opening. Frances has gotta win, especially with that amazing outfit.
